RFID TECHNOLOGY
  • Overcoming RFID Limitations By Chris Kapsambelis. Several supply chains are moving to the use of RFID (radio frequency identification) in logistics applications. RFID has many desirable capabilities but based on extensive testing and dealing with the laws of physics, there are real and practical limitations. In order to help those implementing RFID-based logistics systems, this white paper will identify some of limitations and propose ways to deal with them.

  • The Good, The Bad And The Ugly About An RFID Implementation By A Wal-Mart Top 100 Supplier. Once in a while you get a landmark article! Ed Hess, Editor of Integrated Solutions Magazine, had a VERY candid interview with Ed Matthews, the director of IS at Pacific Cycle, Inc. Yes, it tells the problems but it also explains why Pacific Cycle is “full speed ahead.” It is a must read.

  • Controversy About RFID Replacing Bar Codes? Take a look at this series of emails back and forth between some of the most knowledgeable people in the industry. It is found at the AIDC 100 web site. WOW!

  • RFID Technology, Standards Development, Applications And The Companies Behind The Technology. Here is a compilation of articles from Scan DCR Newsletter supplier by Rick Morgan, editor. This series of articles, like nothing else I’ve ever read, puts controversy about standards, technical capabilities and technology as well as RFID suppler company growth in context. If you want to know the names of the players and what they have to say, read this. (WARNING there is a lot of it!)

  • The RFID Facts. The RFID target keeps moving. Standards, EPCglobal TM, technology, frequencies can make you dizzy. Steve Halliday clears up a lot of confusion in a ten point white paper “The RFID Facts.” As of August of 2004 it is the best thing I've seen to cut to the chase.

  • Three Basic Questions about EPCglobal and Links To More Information. Drill down into the various components of the EPCglobal network.

    • Question 1: Will EPC tags replace Bar codes?

    • Question 2: Do we scrap the EAN.UCC and the U.P.C. to use EPC?

    • Question 3: How do they address different technical features of different kinds of RFID chips?

  • Have you heard about the “China Problem”? A lot of products sold in the US are manufactured in China, Japan and Korea. But China was “snubbed” by the EPCglobal standard setting body.
