Productivity is not really about the latest technology it is really about being a good partner. Good partners use a modest amount of technology like the Internet, Bar Codes (and perhaps RFID) to enable the flow of information up and down the supply chain. Most importantly, good partners use standards to communicate information so they can avoid the cost of special conditions for each of their trading partners.

BSA wants all its members, large and small, distributors and manufacturers to thrive. So we have begun The Partners in Productivity Program to enable our members to:

• Have one common Internet location containing the latest information about guidelines for product identification, labeling and shipments.
• Present the information in an easily digestible form
• Provide foundation and implementation information for those just beginning their involvement
• Explain general concepts and benefits so trading partners and have a common vision to establish common goals

How it Works

• To serve as the focal point, BSA has produced a comprehensive document Product Identification, Label and Shipment Details. It consolidates earlier and related standards. It will serve as THE reference document in the BSA supply chain.
• A document called Vital Items makes it simple for BSA members to explain to their trading partners, the most basic requirements to comply the guidelines.
• Another document The Labeling Implementation Guide is for those BSA members who just starting to label products and shipments or may be complying in one area but must add capabilities in another. It contains information about: GS1 (Formerly EAN.UCC) Label Projects, Serial Shipping Container Labeling and Bar Code Quality
• Many people using the GS1 (formerly UPC) are not aware that there have been many changes to the bar code numbering system and the concepts of supply chain management since they got involved 5, 10 or even 20 years ago.
