Class
Description:
This class provides an overview
of the Electronic Product Code System (EPC).
EPC is the hottest topic in the world of RFID (Radio Frequency
Identification) in 2004 because of mandates from Wal-Mart, Target, and the U.S.
Department of Defense for its adoption by suppliers beginning in 2005.
The class provides a high-altitude perspective of current and future EPC
tag data standards that will enable enhanced supply chain visibility.
Upon completion of this
introductory course, students will have a fundamental grasp of the “why” and
“how” … with a hint as to the “when” of the EPC System.
This is not a technically
rigorous overview. Rather, it
provides a plain language perspective on the pending “Internet of Things” to
be enabled by the EPC.
Note:
This session does not forecast
the demise of the linear and 2D bar codes that have become ubiquitous in retail
and industrial/commercial supply chains. Rather,
it hints at the synergy and shared efficiencies enabled by both bar code and
RFID technologies.
