Class Description:

Companies seeking to utilize EAN.UCC global standards for automatic identification must first grasp the fundamentals of the requisite data carriers (bar codes) and data structures (the actual numbers used for identification purposes).

The EAN.UCC System of standards is jointly governed by the Uniform Code Council, Inc. and EAN International; two separate organizations managing a single Global Language of Business. The very acronyms and abbreviations used for the bar codes and data structures are part of this Global Language.

Students completing this class will come away with a complete understanding of the data carriers, data structures (and the data language!) used to identify Trade Items and Logistics Items at all levels of packaging. While the venerable U.P.C. remains in extensive use, it’s not just about U.P.C. anymore!

This course is a recommended prerequisite for students wishing to participate in the InSightU session, [A206] EAN.UCC Global Trade Item Numbers and the 2005 Sunrise Date.
